Buying the Right Chain by Using the Cuban Link Selfie App!
On our 1-kilo Cuban Link video, we focused on the basics: the making of the actual chain and the importance of being totally focused on quality during the manufacturing process (click here to get a price for your desired chain based on length, thickness, etc.).
On this video, our host Eric discusses how to buy the right chain. In order to help someone make that decision, we created the Cuban Link Selfie app, which he also uses during the video.
This mobile application allows someone to take selfies with different sized gold chains to get an idea how they may look wearing one. Eric says...
You have the selfie option, which is going not only to let you share different pictures with your friends with different size chains on, but most important it's going to let you try on different sizes of chains.
After discussing the selfie functionality, Eric covers how the calculator or customization function of the app can be used in tandem both to get the chain's specific weight and to request a price quote.
For example, let's say that you like the mid-size chain portrayed on the app, The Player, the most. This chain is 30 inches long and 15 millimeters wide.
If you then go to the app calculator section and enter these dimensions for a 14k yellow gold chain, you get a weight of 508 grams or 327 pennyweights. Right off the back, you know that at half a kilogram, this gold chain will make its presence felt!
To go one step further and request prices for the 30-in, 15-mm Cuban Link chain, you would simply enter your email address in a given field and click on the Request Price button.
Advice on Buying the Right Cuban Link
How long should my chain be? How wide? How many karats do I need? These are all questions that customers ask when looking for a gold Cuban. With these customers in mind, Eric provides some tips during the last part of the video.
Chain Length
He starts,I would say that for an average height male, a good standard length for a Cuban Link chain is around 28 inches.
Even though Eric agrees that the ultimate decision regarding chain dimensions should be based on customer preference, he warns men to shy away from shorter chains (e.g., 22-24 inches), unless they're very thin.
In conclusion, the width of the chain needs to be proportional to the length in order to look right.
Gold Purity
The customization section of the app also allows you to choose the karats or gold quality of your chain (starting at 10k or 42% gold, where 24k is pure or 100% gold).
Eric recommends that customers stick to 14-karat or 18-karat gold when it comes to yellow gold chains. However, he doesn't think it's necessary to go past 14k if you're interested in rose gold.
He says, ...when it comes to rose gold, honestly, I wouldn't go 18" because "...you don't really see the difference.
Eric recommends the same thing when it comes to chains in white gold, sticking to a maximum purity of 14k.
When looking to buy a gold Cuban Link, some customers gravitate to lower quality gold, like 10k. This allows them to buy a much bigger chain for less money than a 14k or 18k Cuban Link.
To this Eric responds, I'm not a 10-karat type of guy.
