Rolex Yacht-Master Review – Should You Buy It?
Mr. Watch Your Style is at it again with his video review of the new 2012 Rolex Yacht-Master. You know, the one with the blue dial?
Does this new 40-mm Yacht-Master improve your watch game? It does, if you ask Eric! Eric opens his video by explaining that Rolex released this new Yacht-Master 1 in 2012, as an upgrade to the 2009 version with the silver dial. He explains that even though the 2009 version of the Yacht-Master comes with a dial and bezel insert made out of platinum, many people mistake it for the prior older 1999 model. Both of these models have a silver colored dial, thus the confusion. When it comes to the the 2012 YM1, this confusion does not exist because of the blue sunray dial Rolex used on the new watch. Eric explains,
'Whereas this one right here, there's absolutely no confusion. It's a brand new model. This thing changes the value of the watch, the fact that it has the blue dial...on another level.'The blue sunray (a.k.a. 'sunburst') dial, consisting of rays or beams radiating out form the center, really makes the new Yacht-Master stand out in the crowd. According to Eric, it is one of the things that puts the YM at a higher level when compared to some lower end Rolex models. He goes on to explain,
'If you want to buy something that's a little bit more next level beyond the standard Sub...the Yacht-Master is a good choice.'
Another big improvement on the Yacht-Master design is the clasp. Rolex upgraded the old clasp design when they released the 2012 model. The new YM model has a spring-loaded Oysterlock clasp, which also increases the allure of this new timepiece.
Price of the New Yacht-Master
The price of the Rolex Yacht-Master I is a bit higher than the older model. It retails for around 12,000 USD. Nevertheless, Eric suggests that watch buyers get a better deal by buying the watch pre-owned at an attractive price. He suggests...'I think that the right way to buy this watch is pre-owned. You are looking to spend around 9200 dollars.'In comparison, the older 2009 model can be purchased from about $5,500 to $7,500, according to Eric. In conclusion, Eric sums up his recommendation regarding the new Rolex Yacht-Master as follows:
'So, if you're looking to get a nice watch in the 9000-dollar area that's pretty versatile, the Yacht-Master with the blue dial. Very nice. I like it and I've sold many of them and everybody's very happy with that watch.'
